Most ghostwriters charge around $0.30/word for proofreading, and it is not for manuscripts that need serious work.

Copyediting

The second level of editing is copyediting, which is slightly more detailed than proofreading. With copyediting ? also called line editing ? manuscripts are also edited for continuity, style, cohesiveness and format. When I am hired to copyedit a manuscript, I?ll make changes to basic paragraph structure, but I won?t rearrange entire pages or add to sentences. This is for writers who need a basic look at the entire manuscript, but who need a little extra besides just grammar and spelling correction.

Substantive Editing

The final and most detailed level of editing is substantive editing, which is for manuscripts that need quite a bit of work.
